Just got text telling me that my perfectly functionnal and not particularly old Samsung Galaxy S9 won't work with your new network and it will have to be thrown in the trash in a few months. This is awful. I had no need or desire or plan to "upgrade" to a new phone for no good reason.

Hey there @Francis12345 ,
Welcome to the community and thanks for your post.
In an ongoing effort to enhance the customer experience, Lucky is discontinuing our 3G/HSPA network.
As a result of this change, customers with devices that rely on 3G/HSPA technology will need to upgrade their device. This includes, but not limited to, devices that are 3G/HSPA only, 4G LTE devices that do not support Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and VoLTE capable devices that are not certified for VoLTE use on Lucky (including devices purchased outside of Canada).
VoLTE capable devices may also be impacted as part of this change if the device is utilizing a 3G/HSPA only SIM card or has incorrect settings on the device.
To learn more we invite you to check out 3G/HSPA network discontinuation

'VoLTE capable devices that are not certified for VoLTE use on Lucky'
If I need to discard a perfectly fine mobile phone while on a very limited disability income, I would appreciate a comprehensive list of devices that will be certified on the new network for Lucky. I don't have the budget to purchase new, especially not via Bell, so I can't be taking chances when I can't really afford it. Thanks.

I think it is a scandal that carriers are allowed to force anyone to discard a perfectly good phone with the vague excuse they are shutting down 3g what does that even entail.
What exactly happens when a network shuts down, what does the increase in the numbers actually mean?3,4,5
Smoke and mirrors.

Dear Lucky mobile Antonie,
I strongly oppose disconnecting 3g because Lucky Mobile is the only Carrier in Canada with 3G plans,
The only reason I chose Lucky was that they have 3G and now if you remove it lots of people will not be happy.
My phone is a 3G only and losing 3G will mean I cant use it.
I do not want to upgrade my phone when It works fine.
Removing 3G will not only make you lose consumers from Canada but also from travelers with 3G only phones.
I would strongly appreciate it if you could keep 3G alive.
Thank You,
knamakis

There should be an investigation into the conspiracy to make people buy products with the threat of withdrawing services.

Since Lucky is a Bell subsidiary, Bell is shutting down it's 3G network. This will effect my phone service and it already is. Dropped calls, texting errors and text + pictures are now not being sent. Lucky is not very transparent in the CRT rules of offering users alternatives to use? My old Android phone with a Lucky SIM used to work flawlessly. Now it has major issues with basic text and calling. Bell reached out to me to offer a standard contract of 3 years locked in with a free phone. I don't need another phone with the latest greatest garbage features. I just need a phone that works. So what are others doing as Lucky's service continues to erode? Rogers, Virgin and others are offering SIM upgrades for older phones to retain customers. Bell just offered me a bait & switch. Kinda insulting really! 😞

I received a email and text supposedly from Lucky Mobile offering a free phone because mine will no longer be compatible after 3G is shut down. I just wanted to check if this was legitimate ?

I got a text saying I could receive a complimentary phone from lucky mobile, and to call 1 877 333-0373. I did, they asked for my address, my phone number, the name on my account, and how much I pay for my account. They said they would send me a free tcl phone within 10-12 business days. Did I just get scammed?

Hey there @lordredhead , @Momma2013 and @Kayla ,
Welcome to the community and thanks for reaching out.
We can confirm that this is legitimate. Starting late September 2026, eligible 3G customers may receive a free device offer to migrate their service to a 5G/VoLTE-capable device. The SMS and/or Email would be as follows: Your current phone runs on our older 3G/HSPA network that will be shut down starting Mar 1, 2027. To ensure you stay connected, we're offering you a complimentary phone that runs on our newer, faster network. Simply give us a call to confirm your shipping address. We hope you enjoy your new phone. Info: luckymobile.ca/3gnetwork.
For peace of mind, you can safely confirm this offer and complete the request by contacting Lucky Mobile customer service at *LUCKY (*58259) from your Lucky Mobile phone or call 1 833-88-LUCKY (1 833-885-8259) .

I don't know why we have to discard our phones for a "new phone" be honest no one wants to replace there perfectly good phone for a numbia cymbal or TCL flip just so it is compatible with the network, 3g is the reason I chose lucky and now I need to leave. At least tell us a reason "To enhance customer experience we are shutting down 3g", is not a valid reason because you are not enhancing anyone's experience according to the people in this chat!

Are the courtesy phones being offered really going to be low-rated flip phones? I'm deaf, so I use my current Galaxy S10 for text only (and for emergency phone calls from family). A flip will be a horrible 'upgrade'. Thanks, but I guess I'll have to find a way to replace a perfectly fine device that I really enjoy without Lucky's help.
