How can I redeem the $20 staples gift card?

Hello! 

I received a sms from you Lucky Mobile regarding the $20 staples gift card with gift card # and pin #. Can I avail it online or do I have to redeem it in staples store? I also called the staples store near me and told me that in order to redeem it I have to buy first before I can get the $20 gift card. Is this true?
