Someone else can access my number

So I just got my phone number and everything seems to work but when my friends tried to message me it wouldn't get sent to me but instead someone els who I've now talked to and apparently she had my phone previously but her parents canceled for whatever reason but she can still use now my number to message, the weird thing is when I text my friend through my number they can see it and it gets sent but when they send a reply I can't see it and it goes to the other person who can then somehow reply to my friend.

It's good to hear you've reached out to the person who previously had your phone number. Most likely they had the number linked to a third party messaging service such as WhatsApp. They will need to reach out to WhatsApp Support to have the number removed from their account so you can use your number and SMS services as intended; if not with WhatsApp, they'll need to review what services and accounts exactly they had the phone number attached to.
